Eid-ul-Adha and the Hypocrite 'Animal Rights Activists'

On Wednesday, 21st of July, Eid-ul-Adha is going to be celebrated across Pakistan. The preparations are in full swing: people are buying their sacrificial animals, sharpening their tools, and booking the butchers. It is one of the best times of the year as all the people, from children to adults, enjoy the festivities and manifest the Muslim brotherhood by arranging feasts and distributing meat. However, it is also that time of the year when some people raise their ridiculous concerns.

In recent years, absurd arguments are being actively propagated by self-made animal rights activists. As per these pundits, the bloodshed must be boycotted and everyone must go green as the mass slaughtering of the animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha is the unwarranted cruelty and brutality bestowed upon the innocent animals. Therefore, the argument goes, one may instead install a water-cooler in a public place or bear the expenses of a marriage of a poor girl or participate in charity work or do any other good deed.

Absurd and illogical, the argument is, unfortunately, also being advocated by some of the Muslims—who have forgotten the sunnah of Ibrahim (A.S.) and crossed the limits of imbecility. Also, the irony in the argument can be gauged by the fact that those who advocate it are not themselves vegetarians. All year, they go to expensive restaurants to eat mutton steaks and beef burgers. Only at the time of Eid-ul-Adha, their sympathy for animals arises and translates into their ludicrous concerns.

Also, according to PETA, more than 29 million cows and 9 billion chickens are slaughtered annually for meat and dairy industries. As per another estimate, more than 70 billion land animals are slaughtered worldwide for food every year. Perhaps, the self-made animal rights activists are unaware of these facts.

Therefore, Muslims all over the world must not be beguiled by the arguments of such people. All the Muslims, who can afford, must offer sacrifice on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha as no water-cooler or expenses for the marriages of poor girls can be compensation for the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi.

As a Muslim, and keeping in view the Sunnah. We shouldn’t pay heed to those absurd arguments. As those arguments are baseless.
