PSL 2022 Players Draft - Full squad lists of all six teams

HBL Pakistan Super League’s player draft for the 2022 edition was held today at National High Performance Centre. Six franchises finalised their line-ups for the 7th season’s battle, due to commence early next year on 27th January rather than usual mid-late February window, owing to Australian Cricket Team’s historic tour of Pakistan in March-April.

Following are the PSL 7 squads who will entertain us with high-octane, adrenaline-fuelled, fast-paced, month-long action at the National and Gaddafi Stadium in Karachi and Lahore respectively;

1. Lahore Qalandars

Qalandars shocked everyone by releasing their ace performer, the left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman but in a no-shock move, they picked him back making full use of first Platinum category pick. Other players Lahore picked include Abdullah Shafiq, Englishmen Phillip Salt and Harry Brook, Kamran Ghulam, New Zealander Dean Foxcroft, Zaman Khan, Maaz Khan, England’s Samit Patel and local Syed Faridoun.

2. Multan Sultans

Sultans, who traded Shahid Afridi and James Vince with Quetta in exchange for a Diamond and Silver pick, needed some serious firepower to make up for the trade. They chose Singaporean hard-hitter Tim David as their only Platinum pick, other players in the squad; Caribbean all-rounder Odean Smith, Islamabad United veteran Rumman Raees, Asif Afridi, Anwar Ali, West Indian Rovman Powell, Imran Khan senior, Abbas Afridi, Aamer Azmat, Zimbabwean Blessing Muzarabani, and Ihsanullah.

3. Karachi Kings

Kings chose English fast-bowling allrounder Chris Jordan to strengthen their death overs performance, he had priorly represented the Islamabad franchise in 2021 tournament held in Pakistan but was unable to join them during UAE leg. Other athletes Kings added to the roster; One more England allrounder Lewis Gregory, former Karachi player Umaid Asif, another allrounding English bloke Tom Abell, wicket-keeper batsman Rohail Nazir, M. Imran junior, Faisal Akram, Talha Ahsan, West Indian pacer Romario Shepherd.

4. Islamabad United

Like Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United had also released their southpaw big-hitter Colin Munro and picked him again. He has been in spectacular form, racking in big scores back-to-back in Caribbean Premier League and then Big Bash League. Remaining picks comprise South African fast bowler Marchant de Lange, Muhammad Akhlaq, English seamer Reece Topley, Danish Aziz, Zafar Gohar, Mubasir Khan, Afghan batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ather Mehmood.

5. Peshawar Zalmi

Peshawar Zalmi chose big-hitting Afghanistan opener Hazratullah Zazai in Platinum, he was a Zalmi squad member in PSL 6 Abu Dhabi half too, chosen in Diamond at replacement draft. Zalmi also selected leg-spinner Usman Qadir, Kashmiri quick Salman Irshad, Arshad Iqbal, Sameen Gul, senior Zalmi player and wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal, Sirajuddin, Mohammad Amir Khan, Australian allrounder Ben Cutting, youngster Mohammad Haris.

6. Quetta Gladiators

Post last few tournaments’ abysmal outings, Gladiators had a big responsibility on their shoulders for building a strong enough team to take franchise back to its glory days, when they always ended up in top, even winning the trophy itself at their unofficial home ground, Karachi, in 2019. Their picks in Draft 2021 were, explosive England batter Jason Roy, once the best finisher in limited-overs international cricket, Aussie James Faulkner, Umar Akmal, English wicketkeeping batsman Ben Duckett, Khurram Shehzad, Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai, Ashir Qureshi, Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad, Ahsan Ali.
