What We Are NOT Teaching Our Students!

Cramming, cheating, redundancy, unproductive methods and uncreative attitude have unfortunately become the norms of our education system. The education system of Pakistan is devoid of the most useful techniques and methods of learning which are taught in the institutions around the world. As a result, students get the degrees in various fields, but they do not have the required skills to compete in the modern world.

Dr. Taimur Rehman, a political science teacher at LUMS Lahore, has identified ten things that we don’t teach our students. These are given hereunder:

  1. Pakistan is a state of diversity where people of various ethnicities and religions live.
  2. Respect and tolerance towards other castes, religions and genders.
  3. Creative and critical thinking
  4. Appreciation of art
  5. Love of books
  6. Academic integrity
  7. Pride in working with one’s own hands
  8. Implementation and application of learned lessons in practical life
  9. An intelligent mistake is better than a good guess
  10. Learning is also the matter of one’s entire life, and not just the matter of institutions.

Therefore, if we want to reform our education system and produce better generations with required skills to compete, we must incorporate and implement these things in our teaching methods.

But one thing that astonished me at the same time was that even in this educational system we still are amongst the nuclear power and what not :fireworks::fireworks:

Yes, we are. Thanks to some of our great people and to the blessings of Almighty. But we need to reform this education system. if we had had done it long ago, we would have been far ahead of our neighbours.

Nowadays our students are very hardworking and have a tendency to learn new things but they need encouragement. No institution is bad and we have not right to criticize them but a lot of changes need to made in our educational institutions.
